Tuesday 2nd October.

 

Tonight we held an ‘Open Competition’ which was judged by Mr. Robert Quig D.P.A.G.B. Robert is a founder member of Kilmaurs Camera Club and admits to having been involved in photography for 30 years.

This makes him very highly qualified to judge our competitions.

After much commenting and giving of advice, the following was his decision.

Tuesday 16th October is the ‘Inter Ayrshire Competition’ This is a prestigious event held every year with all nine Ayrshire clubs competing in one venue.

This event is open to the public. Come along and see the best prints and slides in Ayrshire. Judge for the event is Mr.John McVie from Dumfries.

It will be held in the South Parish Church Hall at 7.30pm

Tickets on sale locally and the hall door £1.00 each.

 


Tuesday 16th October

 

‘Inter-Ayrshire Print and Slide Competition’

 

This year hosted by Girvan

Entries from 9 clubs were submitted & judged by Mr.John McVie from Dumfries.

The Results were:

 

1st Ayr with 194 points

                              2nd West Kilbride with 193 points

                              3rd Kilmaurs with 192 points

 

Girvan won the Slide section but overall we were 5th

 


Tuesday 23rd October

 

Tonight we held a ‘Monochrome Competition’ which was judged by Mr. Ian Davidson A.P.A.G.B. from Townend camera club.  After much commenting and giving of advice, the following was his decision:

Tuesday 13th November

 

 ‘The Rotary Competition’ ‘Bridges in Carrick’.

 

Every Year the Rotary club of Girvan provide a subject and a cup.

 

All the entries were shown to the Rotary members and then they voted for the winners.

There was an entry of 11 slides, 12 prints and 23 electronic images.

The results were presented by Mr. Jim Crawford. Rotary member.

Tuesday 20th November

 

 The club held it’s inter club battle with Ayr Photographic Society. The judge was Mr. Bill Howie from Saltcoats Camera Club. 15 Prints and 10 Slides were submitted from each club. Bill judged the prints and slides very professionally and gave helpful and constructive criticism.

 

The results were:

 

Slides Ayr 165 points Girvan 168 points

 

Prints Ayr 253 points Girvan 252 points

 

The highest marked Slide was ‘Red Squirrel’ (Girvan) with 20 points.

The highest marked print was ‘Golden Eagle and Brooding Chick’ (Ayr) with 20 points.

 

A close run competition with Girvan winning by 2 points.

 

A very enjoyable evening was had by all. Many very fine prints and slides were seen.

The Ayr vice president thanked Girvan club for hosting the event and providing an excellent tea.

Girvan president Robert Wright thanked Mr. Howie for making such a long journey on a winter’s night to judge the competition. Both clubs showed there appreciation in the usual way.

'Portrait’ competition

 

The judge for this competition was Mr. Peter Occleston from Dailly.

There was an entry of 5 slides, 10 prints and 21 Digital images. Peter commented wisely and wittily on all the entries and his verdict was as follows:

The judge was John McEwan. John, who was the photographer for the Carrick Gazette for many years, said ‘How very impressed he was with the quality of all the entries and found making judgment very difficult but very enjoyable’.  His verdict was as follows:

‘Open Competition’

Judged by Mr. Ian Davidson AGAGB.  Ian is president of Townend camera club and lives in Irvine.

Ian, a very popular judge with our club, would not tell us how long he has been involved in photography but admitted he has been judging for more than 20 years and is now on the SPF judging list.  This makes him very highly qualified to judge our competitions.  Ian was thanked for coming such a long way on a winter’s night by President Robert Wright and the club showed their appreciation in the usual way.

‘Wildlife and Natural History’ competition

 

There was a large entry of 13 Slides, 23 prints and 32 Electronic Images.  The judge Stuart Strachan is President of Kilmaurs Camera Club and is an expert wildlife photographer who was very well suited to judging a competition such as this. His comments and explanations of his own method of wildlife photography were greatly appreciated by the club.  Stuart was thanked, enthusiastically, by Jim Crawford and the club gave a hearty round of applause.  The results were as follows:

Tuesday 12th February

Slide Audio Visual competition

The judge was Dr Mike Blair.  Mike is a member of 'Ayr Photographic Society' and also a member of  the 'Scottish Photographic Circle'.  The second half of the evening was a digital presentation from Mike about his four months in New Zealand last year.  First we saw a brilliant 'Wildlife in New Zealand' show from the South Island and Stewart Island.  The second presentation showed a magnificent display of landscapes from both north and south islands.  This was an excellent evening's entertainment.

Dr Blair was thanked by President Robert Wright.

There were six entries in the competition and Dr. Blair’s Decision was as follows:

Judged by Sir Patrick Hunter-Blair of Blairquhan.  A large entry 13 Slides, 15 Prints and 24 Digital Images were submitted. Many fine pictures, slides and images were seen. Sir Patrick was very complimentary on all the entries and his decision was as follows.

Digital audio visual competition

 

This is a competition for slide shows made up from digital images accompanied with music and sounds and shown from a laptop and digital projector. 16 shows were entered.

 

The judge for the competition was Mr. Ian Crichton CPAGB from Dumfries. Ian, a past member of Girvan camera club, is now a member of Dumfries club.
